Mandatory Reporter Training

Any concerns about a child or youth's safety should be reported to the Statewide Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline immediately (1-844-CO-4-KIDS). If you witness a child in a life-threatening situation, call 911 immediately.

All PYS volunteers are mandatory reporters. Mandatory reporters are professionals or volunteers who work with children and youth. They are required by law to report suspicion of child abuse and neglect.

As a mandatory reporter, it's not your job to determine whether abuse occurred, but rather to report any suspicions you may have. Mandatory reporters are part of the safety net that protects children and youth. You have the ability to provide lifesaving help to child victims in our community.

Because you're a mandatory reporter, Colorado law requires you to make a report if you suspect child abuse or neglect. If you suspect abuse or neglect has occured and don't make a report, you could:

-Be charged with a crime

-Have to pay a fine

-Go to jail

PYS requires all our volunteers to complete an annual mandatory reporter training to help them understand how to recognize, respond to, and report child abuse and neglect.

There are 2 steps to complete this requirement:

1. Complete the required training course here:

https://coloradocwts.com/public-training/mandated-reporter-training/

2. Save your certificate of completion - Certificate will need to be uploaded to teamsnap registration.
